Civil litigation - what is it?

As a general rule, civil litigation involves a dispute between two parties that does not involve criminal conduct. Generally, in civil litigation, one party, known as the plaintiff, seeks compensation from the other party, known as the defendant. In this case, there are two possible means of resolving the dispute: through negotiation or through the judicial system. There are several types of civil cases, including those in which an individual sues another individual, those in which a business sues another business, and those in which an individual sues a government agency.

Civil litigation cases are often settled prior to going to court because the parties decide that settlement is the best course of action. The Barger Law Firm, PLLC has the expertise to guide its clients through the complex aspects of civil litigation.
